Funeral services for Gladys Heikens, 82, Spencer, will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

Miss Heikens died at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Tuesday.

The Rev. Jerry Brown will officiate at the services.

Casket Bearers; Marvin Heikens, Edward Heikens, Bill Heikens, Stanley Heikens, Mike Heikens and Lance Heikens.

Burial will be in Summit Township Cemetery in rural Spencer and the Glen Pederson Post No. 1 of the American Legion will provide military services.

The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of the arrangements.

The daughter of W.G. and Martha (Thompson) Heikens. Miss Heikens was born April 11, 1906, in Grundy County. In 1908 her family moved to the Spencer area, and it was in the country schools that she received her early education.

After graduating from Spencer High School, she attended nursing school at the Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. Upon completing her schooling, she remained in Chicago, where she worked as a nurse for a number of years before entering the field of public nursing.

In 1942, Miss Heikens enlisted in the Army, where she served as a nurse and attained the rank of Major. Following her discharge, she continued working in the public health field and spent some time on an Indian reservation in Ajo, Arizona.

After retiring in the early 1960's, she moved to Greely, Colorado, where she lived for several years. In June of 1985, she moved to Spencer, where she was a resident of St. Luke Lutheran Home.

Survivors include one brother, Merle of Spencer; 18 nieces and nephews and three sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Warren and Leonard and three sisters, Anna and Lillian and one in infancy.
