Funeral services for Gertie E. Heikens, 69, of Spencer were held Tuesday, March 27, 1984, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Reformed Church of rural Everly.

The Rev. Steven Bakker officiated the service.

Pallbearers; Mike Heikens, Ed Heikens, Larry Wilson, Doug Heikens, Tim Wilson and Stan Heikens

Interment was in the Summit Township Cemetery at rural Spencer. The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of the arrangements.

Gertie E. Heikens was born to Enno and Anna (Wagenaar) Eeten on December 3, 1914 near Everly. Her childhood years were spent in the Everly area where she received her early education in the country schools. After her schooling she did house work.

She married Merle Heikens on September 29, 1934 near Spencer and they lived on a farm there.

Mrs. Heikens was a member of the First Reformed Church of Everly and served in various offices of the church guild. She was also a member of the Summit Township Ladies Club and as an avid gardener who loved to grow flowers.

Survivors include her husband, Merle; one son, Marvin Heikens of Spencer; two daughters, Marilyn Wilson of Northglenn, Colorado and Janet Heikens of Spencer; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Eeten of Fostoria, Pete Eeten of Spencer and George Eeten of Brawley, California; and three sisters, Anna Heikens of Milford, Goldie Wilson of Spencer and Louise Myer of Aurora, Colorado.
