Bernard (Ben) Johnson Heikens
October 11, 1916-Decemeber 20, 1990Bernard (Ben) Johnson Heikens, 74, of Spencer, died Thursday, December 20, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital.
Funeral Services will be 1:30p.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Richard Pearson will officiate.
Casket Bearers; Greg Knight, Larry Heikens, Dan Hollander, Greg White, Paul Benson and Dan Beddow.
The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Heikens was born to George D. and Lyle (Johnson) Heikens of Summit Township on October 11, 1916. He was born on the farm his great grandfather Heikens had purchased in 1884, and which has been continuously farmed by his grandfather, father and by Mr. Heikens and his brothers until the present.
After attending grade school in Summit Township and two years at Spencer High School, he graduated from Okoboji High School in Rural Milford.
On August 7, 1954, he married Phyllis Kohn of Spencer. A lifelong member of the Zion Methodist Church, he also belonged to Golden K Kiwanis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his daughter.
Mr. Heikens is survived by his wife; one daughter and her husband, Kohne and David Bippus of Rockford, Illinois; one granddaughter; two brothers and their wives, Donald and Phoebe and Dale and Virginia, all of Spencer; and one sister and her husband, Mary and William Knight of Miller's Bay.
