John William Schroeder
September 12, 1896-January 2, 1980Services for John William Schroeder, 83, of rural Spencer will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 1980, at the Zion Methodist Church in rural Spencer. Interment will be at the First Reformed Cemetery in Everly.
Rev. Gary Bird will officiate the services.
Pallbearers; Jeff Franker, David Edmonds, Ken Maas, Francis Hoffrichter, Donald Heikens and Glenn DeWall.
John Schroeder, the son of Reinhardt and Mary (Glawe) Schroeder, was born September 12, 1896 near Beaver. He spent his childhood near Paton and he received his elementary school education there. He graduated from high school in Boxholm. He attended North Central College in Naperville, Illinois.
John Schroeder married Gertie Groenewold on March 1, 1930 in Fort Dodge. Following their marriage they moved to Spencer, where they have made their home since.
He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church and ASC Committee. Schroeder also served as a director on the Summit Township School Board, the Northwest Iowa Experimental Farm, the Iowa Farm Bureau and the Parker Historical Society.
Schroeder died Wednesday, January 2, 1980, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lola; three brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Gertie of Spencer; a daughter, Mrs. Miriam Fonley of Spencer; thre granddaughters; a great-grandson; a brother, Ernest of Jefferson; and three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bovey of Pilot Mound, Mrs. Viola Hartwig of Juda, Wisconsin and Mrs. Ila Moss of Stoughton, Wisconsin.
