February 27, 1905-February 16, 1999Gertie Johanna Schroeder, 95, Spencer, died February 16, 1999, at Longhouse Residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 20, at the Zion United Methodist Church, Spencer, with the Rev. Shurmaine McAlpine officiating.

Burial will he held at First Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Everly, with Warner Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of arrangements.
Gertie Johanna Schroeder, the daughter of Hilbert Jacob and Theresa (Cramer) Groenewold, was born February 27, 1905, on a farm northwest of Fostoria. When she was 29 days old, her family moved to a farm northwest of Spencer, where she received her early education in country schools in Summit Township. She later graduated from Spencer High School and Tobin Business College in Fort Dadge. She taught at several rural schools in Summit and Waterford Township for seven years.
Gertie married J. William Schroeder on March 1, 1950, at the Evangelical Church in Fort Dodge. Following their marriage, they began farming on the Groenewold farm in Summit Township. She was an active member of Zion Evangelical (later Zion United Methodist Church) in rural Spencer for all her life as a Sunday school and Bible school teacher for over 50 years. She was an active on the Clay County Extension Council, 4H leader, BABES, Spencer School Grandmother and the Farm Bureau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1980; one daughter, Lola; an infant brother and one sister, Etta June Schmerse.
Mrs. Schroeder is survived by one daughter; Miriam Fonley and her husband, Duane of Spencer; three granddaughters; Myrna Edmonds and her husband, David, of Spencer; Lonelle Franker and her husband, Jeff of Spencer; Cleone Rouse and her husband, Glenn, of Spencer; a sister-in-law, Ila Maas and her husband, Ken of Stoughton, Wisconsin; and nine great-grandchildren.
