Gertie Marie Hans passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer on Sunday, January 10, 1999. Her services were Friday, January 16, 1999 at United Pentecostal Church in Spencer with Pastor Dale L. Hodges, Ivor Reuter, Jr. and David Ellenwood officiating.

Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.

Music was provided by organist David Hodges, soloists Lisa West and Ervin Elgersman, with a violin diet of "Ivory Palaces" by Susan Reuter and Marlys VanEngen, and a saxophone solo of "My Tribute" by Craig Reuter.

Pallbearers; J.C. Panska, A.J. Panska, Andrew West, Jim West, Ivor Reuter III, and Danny Borron.

Marie was born February 27, 1908 in Milford, to parents Gerd and Adell (Lombard) Lambertus. Her childhood years were spent in Milford, where she received her education. She was married to Frederick Hanse on June 20, 1934 in Milford. Following their marriage, she lived in the communities of Milford and Spencer. She was an active member of the United Pentecostal Church in Spencer. Marie's whole life was dedicated to her church and her family.

She was born into a musically talented family, therfore music was one of her main interests. As a young girl, she and her sister, Genevieve, played their Hawaiian guitars together at social and church functions, and Marie continued playing into her senior citzens years. Marie encouraged her children and grandchildren to sing and take lessons on musical instruments. Throughout her lifetime, she had enjoyed art and at about 80, took up painting for the first time, which she continued for a few years.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Martin and Ruthann of Council Bluffs, four daughters and their husbands, Norma and Ivor Reuter and Ramona and J.C. Panska all of Spencer, Bonnie and Ronald James and Joanna and Jim West all of St. Louis, Missouri, one sister Virgina Elgersma of Auburn, California, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred on December 16, 1964, two sisters; Wilma and Genevieve and two brothers; Glenn and Theodore Lambertus.
