February 17, 1903- 1972Longtime County Residence Dies; Rites on Monday
Funeral was held Monday at the Union Memorial Church at Milford for Henry Samuel Janssen, 68, of Milford. Mr. Janssen died Friday at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
The Rev. Robert Ruleman officiated at the rites. Burial was at the First Reformed Church Cemetery at Fostoria.
Active Bearers: Milo Watson, Russell Roberts, Charles Tielbur, Burdette Heikens, Roger Heikens and Frank Fellows.
Honorary Bearers: Rudolph Fonken, Dick Beving, Jack Hillery, Dennis Johnson, Wayne Austin, Elmer Chestelson, Ralph Burgin, Elwood Johnson Jr., and Leighton White.
Mr. Janssen was born February 17, 1903 at Ackley, the son of Dick and Jennie (Beving) Janssen. He was married August 22, 1930, at Fostoria to the former Alice Johnson. Mr. Janssen was a retired school teacher.
He is survived by his widow, Alice; one daughter, Mrs. Charles Hunt of Hampton, two grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Jennie Janssen of Spencer, one brother, Herbert of Fostoria and one sister, Mrs. Harry Heikens.
Mr. Janssen moved to Dickinson County in 1907. He was a member of the Union Memorial Church at Milford and the Masonic Lodge at Plover. He was also secretary of the Milford Kiwanis Club. He served as a school superintendent for 35 years at Plover, DeSoto, Westfield, Alta, Zwingle, Cornell and Galt. He was a coach and instructor in manual arts and alson served as Buena Vista County Superintendent two years. He retired in 1967.
Mr. Janssen was also active in Boy Scouts work.
The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer had charge of of final arrangements.
