Funeral services for Martin Hoffman, 79, of Lake Park, were held Tuesday, September 30, 1980, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Lake Park with the Rev. W. Micheal Biklen officiating.

Pallbearers: Harold McCauley, Howard Burnside, Roy Boles, Donald Goodell, Dennis Stoltenberg, and Rodney Graham. Interment was in the First Reformed Cemetery in Everly, Iowa.

Martin Hoffman was born to Harm and Helena (Bolan) Hoffman at Oatgrosefehn, Germany, on March 1, 1901. He attended school in Germany.

On June 4, 1926, he married Ella Sonius at Fort Dodge, Iowa and to this union three children were born.

Hoffman came to the United States in 1923. He was a mason and farmer. He worked for Spencer Construction Company in Spencer. He lived in Fostoria from 1926 until 1942.

Then the family moved to a farm south east of Lake Park. For a number of years. farming was Martin's main occupation. After his wife died, he rented out the farmland returned to masonary work.

Martin served on the Board of Directors for the Excelsior School. He enjoyed fishing, reading and gardening.

Martin died Saturday, September 27, 1980 at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Verle Lair of Spencer, and Mrs. Earl Langel, of Milford; one son, Andrew Hoffman, of rural Lake Park; one brother, Jerry Hoffman, Fostoria; one sister, Ida Hedeman, of Germany, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella; nine brothers and sisters; and one grandson, Martin Langel.

The Leyson Funeral Home of Lake Park was in charge of arrangements.
