Mrs. John (Ida Groenewold) Dirksen
February 9, 1859-June 17, 1923

Mrs. John Dirksen died at her home in Fostoria, Sunday morning, June 17, 1923, after a lingering illness of a year or more. During this time she maintained her happy, cheerful disposition and was always thoughtful and considerate of others.

Ida Groenewold was born in Germany, February 9, 1859, and was 64 years, 4 months and 8 days of age when she was called "home." She came with her parents to this country in 1869 and located near Perin, Illinois, afterwards moving to Ackley, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to John Dirksen in Ackley, January 31, 1878, where they lived about ten years. To this union six children were born, one daughter and five sons, namely, Mrs. A. Hagemeyer, Reiner, Steve, Henry, Theodore and John Jr. The family came to Clay County moving on the farm west of Fostoria where they spent much of their married life. Two years ago this couple decided to take life easier and purchased a home in town and gave over the charge of their country home to their sons Henry and Theodore.

Mr. and Mrs. Dirksen were blessed by having their five children near them, while their youngest son John lives at home. These children and their families have all been very thoughtful and attentive to their parents during their mothers illness.

Mrs. Dirksen was a member of the Reform Church and attended services there as long as her health would permit.

Besides the husband and children. Mrs. Dirksen leaves six grandchildren, one sister, Mrs, E.E. Bleeker, and a host of friends to mourn her departure.

Funeral services at the house Wednesday at 1 p.m.
then at the Reform Church and burial in the cemetery near. Our deepest sympathy is extended to the relatives in their great sorrow.
