Mrs. Louie Boyenga

Mrs. Louie Boyenga, Hattie Bleeker, died of a heart attack, September 3, 1964 at the Iowa Falls Hospital following a 24 hour illness. She was born in Grundy County, Iowa, December 16, 1886, and had attained the age of 77 years, 8 months and 17 days.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Anna) Oldgrogge of Des Moines and Rena who lived in Ackley with her mother.

Mrs. Boyenga was reared in Westport Township, Dickinson County, Iowa, northeast of Everly, Iowa. She was joined in marriage with Louie Boyenga, March 5, 1908, at the home of her parents, Evert E. and Juerena (Groenewold) Bleeker, in Westport Township. After her marriage she and her husband established a farm home in that same locality. In 1946, the couple moved to Ackley and retired.

Mrs. Boyenga began taking part in church activities in 1912 as a charter member and remained a member of the First Reformed Church of Fostoria all her life. She was also one of the charter members of the Women's Guild of that church.

Funeral services were conducted September 5 at 9:30 a.m. at the Washington Reformed Church of Ackley with the Rev. Robert R. Wallinga officiating. A short prayer service for relatives preceded the service. A second service was held at 2 p.m. in the First Reformed Church at Fostoria with the Rev. Wallinga and the Rev. E. Kampman officiating. Interment was made in the First Reformed Cemetery.

At the 9:30 service, Pallbearers; Herman O. Froese, Chris Green, Eggert Klahsen, Edward Koop, Arthur Lupkes and Ralph Ploeger.

At the 2 p.m. service, Pallbearers; Orville Bleeker, Clifford Fear, Elywn Follon, Donald Klett, William Ringering and Eite Roskens in the Fostoria Church.

Mrs. Boyenga was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Surviving relatives include two sisters, Mrs. Henry Winterboer of Everly and Mrs. Ed Boyenga of Ackley, and two brothers, Ed and Evert Bleeker, both of Spencer; two granddaughters, Sharon and Sue Oldgrogge of Des Moines, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
