February 2, 1930-April 15, 1977

Maurice J. Biancalana, 47, Grinnell died suddenly Friday morning, April 15, of an apparent heart condition while working at a construction site in Newton, Iowa.

He was the son of Valenti and Zita (Parenti) Biancalana and was born February 2, 1930 at Glenwood, Iowa. He was a graduate of Glenwood High School with the class of 1947. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

On May 24, 1953, he was married to Alice Kaiser at the First Reformed Church near Everly. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Fort Dodge; Maryville, Missouri; Marshalltown; and moved to Grinnell in 1959.

Maurice was associated with the Safeway Food Stores and had served as manager of the Marshalltown and Grinnell stores. Since 1963 he had been a heavy equipment earth moving operator; and recently was associated with the Damman Ditching Company, at Newton.

He was a member of the Francis E. Gallagher American Legion Post at Brooklyn, Iowa; the Grinnell Elks Lodge; and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Grinnell. He is survived by his wife, Alice; his two children; Valarie and Tony Biancalana of Grinnell; his mother; Mrs. Zita Biancalana of Chicago, Illinois; an aunt, Mrs. Pete Parenti of Milford, uncle, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Maurice J. Biancalana was held Monday, April 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Harry H. Linnenbrink, officiating.

Pallbearers; Pat Boat, Larry Bryan, Jack Byers, John Garner, Paul Green, Mel Rummelhart.

Honorary Pallbearers; Byron Damman, Mel Guerts, Gerald Hagen, Willard Hagen, Gordon Haworth, Brad Jones, Alvin Sheeler and Kenneth J. Thompson.

The Scripture Service was held Sunday, April 17, at the Smith Funeral Home. Gravesite rites were conducted by Rev. Arie Block. Burial was in the First Reformed Cemetery, west of Fostoria. Should friends desire memorials in his name may be left at the Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, Iowa. Military graveside rites were conducted by members of the Milford American Legion Post.
