April 4, 1913-September 29, 2004Fern J. Dirks, 91, of LeMars passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. October 2, 2004, at St. Johns Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. in LeMars. Graveside services are at 2:30 p.m., at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.
Casket Bearers; Bill Zimmerman, Randy Weberts, Darwin Dirks, Stanley Dirks. Myron Dirks, and Jerel Epling.
Fern J. Dirks was born April 4, 1913, in Eagle Township, Rural Sioux County, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Hemmingson) Webert. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on May 11, 1913, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ireton, She Attended country school in Eagle Township. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 1, 1927, at the Peace Lutheran Church in rural Sioux Center. She was united in marriage to LeRoy Dirks on March 5, 1932, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hudson, South Dakota. The couple lived in Sioux County until 1941, and them moved to LeMars. In 1943, they moved to Merrill, where she helped her husband with his auto repair business. In 1953, they moved to Spencer, and later to Everly, where they continued in the auto repair business. LeRoy passed away in December of 1984. In 1986, Fern moved back to LeMars, where she made her home at the Floyd Valley Apartments. In may of 1997, she became a resident of the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.
She was a former member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, First English Lutheran Church in Spencer and later Hope Lutheran Church in Everly. She was currently a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in LeMars, While she was active, she was a member of the Ladies Aide, Circle groups, and Bible study, She also volunteered at the LeMars Senior Center.
Survivors include; a daughter; Loanne Dodge of Ankeny; a son and his wife; Harlan and Joan Dirks of Saratoga, California; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister; Neva (Webert) Dirks of Gardnerville, Nevada; 4 sister-in-laws; Marie DeBoom and Evelyn Dirks, both of LeMars, Dorothy Dirks and Ada Bultman and her husband Darrell, all of Hawarden; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy in 1984; a son Ordell in 1965; a son-in-law; Gordon Dodge; a granddaughter; Pamela Sue Dirks in infancy; daughter-in-law; Georgia Dirks; a grandson Mark Dirks; 2 sisters; Bernice Christopherson and Arlene Zimmerman; and 2 brothers; Leslie and Ordean Webert.
