August 19, 1904-October 1, 1997Mabel Dempsey, 93, Spencer, died Wednesday, October 1, 1997, at St. Luke Lutheran Home, Spencer.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 6, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. at Warner Chapel, Spencer, with the Rev. G. Duane Baun officiating.
Casket Bearers; Peter Dempsey, Brian Dempsey, Gary Rehfeldt, Mark Dempsey, Michael Rehfeldt and John Dempsey.
Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery, Everly, with Warner Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of arrangements.
Mabel Dempsey, the daughter of John and Sophia (Moeller) Jelden, was born August 19, 1904, in Everly. Her childhood years were spent in Everly where she received her early education, later graduating from Everly High School. She received her teacher's certificate from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. Following her education, she worked as a teacher in Everly.
She married Francis "Jack" Henry Dempsey on October 11, 1924, in Worthington, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they moved to Waukesha and Eagle, Wisconsin, where they farmed for 20 years. She also worked in a factory, as a teacher's aide and was also a wallpaper hanger. She moved back to Everly in 1963. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Everly.
Mrs Dempsey was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, one brother and one sister.
She is survived by three sons, Gary and his wife, Sandra of Murrieta, California; Russell and his wife , Rene, of Irving, Texas; and Gene and his wife, LaVerne, of Helenville, Wisconsin; two daughter, Alice Pierce and her husband Harry, of Dallas, Texas; and Doris Talmadge of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; 15 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Grover Jelden and his wife, Ora, of Harrisburg, Oregon.
