Prominent Resident of Everly Passes Away July 4

Henry Herman Brugman, 68, for the past 45 years a beloved resident of the Everly community, passed away on Thursday afternoon, July 4, at 6:30 p.m. in his home in Everly following an illness extending over the past three months, during which time he has been confined to his bed.

Mr. Brugman retired from active farm work seven years ago and has since made his home with his sisters, Bertha and Minnie Brugman, in Everly. A third sister, Mrs. Ida Moeller of Everly, also survives him.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, July 7, at 1:30 o'clock from the home and at two o'clock at the Lutheran Church. Rev. A.H. Geske, officiating. Interment was made in the Lone Tree Cemetery.

Pallbearers; D.P. Petersen, Hans Petersen, William Pohlen, J.W. Flick, C. Sierck and A.J. Wehler, all near friends and neighbors.

Born in Germany

Mr. Brugman was born August 5, 1866 in Mecklenburg, Germany. and was 68 years, 10 months and 29 days of age at the time of his death. He was the eldest of five children of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Brugman, and came to America with his parents when he was but two years of age.

Mr. Brugman settled in Scott County, Iowa near Blue Grass and Walcott. In 1893, the family moved to Clay County and settled on a farm southeast of Everly. Here the father and mother passed away, but the farm remained the home of the two boys and their three sisters and they resided there until retirement and transfer of their resident and transfer of their residence to the town of Everly.

Henry Brugman was preceded in death by his mother 1912, and father in 1916. His brother Louis passed away in 1932.

The deceased was baptized in his early years in the faith of the Lutheran Church and later was confirmed into the membership of Hope Lutheran Church of Everly. He was known as a faithful and congenial brother and fiend and his death brought sadness to the entire Everly community.
