Funeral services were held at Everly for Darlene Berends, Tuesday morning, January 22. The clergymen officiating at the Everly United Methodist Church were Rev. Gary Bird and Rev. Arie Blok.

Pallbearers were; John Bates, Bob Cutell, Oliver Ficken, Henry Sonius, Jim Walton and Keith Somers.

Interment was in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Everly.

Darlene Delia Berends was born December 17, 1925 at Hartley, Iowa to Walter and Delia (Wills) Woltersdorf. She received her education in and graduated from the Hartley schools. Darlene taught country school near Hartley after high school for one year.

She married Archie Berends on June 5, 1945 at Cherokee. Following their marriage they lived on a farm near Ocheyedan for 14 years, before moving south of Everly where they lived for 10 years. They moved to their present farm in 1970. Darlene was a member of the Everly United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, She was very devoted to her family, home and church.

Mrs. Berends died at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake on January 18, 1980 at the age of 54 years, one month and one day. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Archie of Everly, two sons, Dennis and his wife Sue of Everly and Steve and his wife Beth of Everly; seven grandsons, one sister, Opal Mae Jessen of Everly; and two brothers, Lester Woltersdorf of Melvin and Lloyd Woltersdorf of Sanborn, other relatives and many friends
