November 17, 1918-November 18, 1996Bertha May Austin, 78, Arnolds Park, formerly of Spencer, died, Monday, November 18, 1996, at her home.
Funeral sevices will be Saturday, November 23, 1996 at 10:30 am at Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park with the Rev. Scott Holmes officiating.
Caskets Bearers will be Ronny Groves, Richard Westergard, Steven Westergard, Larry Wintz, Noel Austin, Earl Westergard and William Wintz.
Honorary caskets bearers are Terry Hott and Kent Hott
Burial will be at Lone Tree Cemetery, Everly, with the Warner Funeral Home of Spencer in charge of arrangements.
Bertha May Austin, the daughter of Jerry and Effie (Cutshall) Davidson, was born November 17, 1918, near Dickens. Her childhood years were spent in that community where she received her early education, graduating from Lake Center High School.
She married Leo "Pete" Austin on June 17, 1942, in Dakota City, Nebraska. Following their marriage they moved to Spencer where she worked at the Clay County National Bank. They later purchased the Dairy Queen businesses in Spencer and Arnolds Park which they operated for 13 years. They retired in 1971. For several years they made their home in Arnolds Park.She was a member of the Calvary United Church in Arnolds Park and the Ladies Circle and was active in the Retired and Senior Volunteers Program.
Mrs. Austin was preceded in death her parents, her husband, three sisters; Grace King, Clarabell Groves, and Helen Maurer; and two brothers; Ivan and Earl.
She is survived by one sister, Violet Rhodes of Phoenix, Arizona.
