Nis Lorenzen
August 12, 1855-May 25, 1919Nis Lorenzen was born in Provinz, Schleswig, Germany, August 12, 1855 and died May 26, 1919 at the age of 63 years, 9 months and 14 days. His death came from heart failure, caused from an illness of ten months. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. B.L. Lorenzen, both preceding him in death.
Mr. Lorenzen came to America at about the age of 17 and went to Clinton, Iowa, where he worked on the farm up to the time of his marriage. On March 3, 1883 he was married to Lena Gries of Union Center, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Preston, Iowa until coming to Everly in 1894. The farm 6,1/2 miles southwest of Everly was Mr. Lorenzen's home farm from the time he came to Clay County to the tome of his death.
Mr. Lorenzen is survived by his wife and eleven children. Twp children died in infancy.
The children are Ben, Dora, Helena, Henry, Dollie, Rosa, Will, Pauline, Theodore, Edward and Francis. They are all at home except Ben and Henry who are married; Ben residing at Hartley and Henry on a farm north of Everly. There are two grandchildren.
Mr Lorenzen was a member of the Lutheran Church, having joined when but a child. He was a man of sterling qualities and was loved and respected bu all that knew him.
Besides the wife and children he is survived by three brothers and four sisters, John of Everly, Bendix of Tacoma, Washington, Bahne, of Preston, Iowa, Mrs Christine Asmussen of Royal, Mrs. Anna Rickers of Plains, Kansas and two sisters that reside in Germany. There are also many other relatives.
Funeral services were held from the home Thursday, May 29th, at 2:00 p.m.. Interment was made in the Lone Tree Cemetery of Everly, Iowa
