Peter Zahren
June 11, 1853 - June 23, 1928

Peter Zahren was born June 11, 1853 at Main, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and passed away Saturday morning at the home of his sons, Harry and Gilbert Zahren, June 23, 1928, following an illness of six months. At the time of his death he was 75 years, 1 week and 5 days.

Mr Zahren was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran faith when a child, of which faith he continued until death.

On March 7, 1883, he was united in marriage to Anna Weber, who passed away in 1923. Eight children were born to this union, seven of whom survive him, namely, Mrs. Clifford Garlick of Manchester; Mrs. Floyd Hakeman of White, South Dakota; Amiel of Everly; Juluis of Manchester; Edward of Milford; Gilbert and Harry of Lake Park, Iowa.

In 1884, Mr. and Mrs. Zahren emigrated to this country and settled in New Jersey, where they lived for three years, when they moved to Lost Nation, Iowa, where they made their home for 16 years. They then moved to Linn County, where they lived for 10 years and the balance of his earthly pilgrimage was spent in the community of Everly, Hartley and Lake Park.

Mr. Zahren was an honest, conscientious worker, always ambitious and diligent. He was anxious to please and accomplish things which he set out to do and because of his devotion to home his place cannot be filled.

"A place is vacant in our home. A voice we lived is stilled, A place is vacant in our hearts, Which never can be filled."

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Lutheran Church at Everly and burial took place at Lone Tree Cemetery.
