Mrs. Dickson Funeral Held on Monday

Death Takes Toll of Several Pioneers During Week

Following an illness since about Christmas time, Mrs. Frank C. Dickson, 78, prominent resident of Spencer and wife of F.C. Dickson, president of the Dickson Fruit company, passed away at her home, 206 East Eighth street, Friday, April 14, 1933, at 6:30 p.m.

Mrs. Dickson, who had been an invalid for the past four years, was considered in good health until in December when she contracted a mild case of influenza. Since the illness members of the family noted gains in her health, and chances for complete recovery from the disease seemed highly probably, but Monday night previous to her death she suffered a relapse, and passed away the following Friday, death occurring during the evening hours from a heart attack and complications.

Funeral services, held at the Dickson home Monday afternoon, April 17, were attended by the many friends of the deceased woman. Floral tributes, in final testimony of the esteem her friends and neighbors held for her, banked her bier. Rev. Benjamin J. Trickey, pastor of the First Congregational church, Spencer, officiated at the rites. Mrs. L.B. Gartland offered requiem, singing "Abide With Me."

Employees Bear Casket

Casket bearers assisting were employees and associates of the Dickson Fruit company, Frank Shepard, Sam Rehfield, George Schmidt, Ernest Baldwin, Archie Vogus and J.L. Kinkead. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Roseltha Mary Gridley, daughter of Leander and Mary Gridley, was born November 3, 1854, at Wauwatosa, Wis. She was united in marriage at that city to Mr. Dickson February 14, 1882, the couple later moving to Flandreau, S.D., where they resided nine years. They took up residence at Armour and Mitchell, S.D., before coming to Spencer in 1917.

Surviving Mrs. Dickson are three children, Florence (Mrs. L.M. Simons) of Belle Fourche, S.D., S.C. Dickson of Sacramento, Calif., and B.R. Dickson of Storm Lake. Mrs. Simons and B.R. Dickson and their families were in attendance at the last illness and rites. Three brothers, L.V. Gridley, L.R. Gridley and C.L. Gridley, living in Wisconsin and Chicago, also survive.
