Following a lingering illness of several years, John Voss, 74, of Greenville passed away at the Spenver hospital Friday, April 14, 1933.
For the past five years Mr. Voss had been suffering from a complication of diseases. He was taken more seriously ill about Christmas time, and removed to the hospital about two weeks ago to receive treatment for a gangrenous infection in one of his legs. It was found necessary to amputate the limb, and he was recovering nicely from the operation. However, the complication of diseases that he had been battling proved too much for his limited strength, and he passed away Friday, direct cause of his demise being diabetes and nephritis.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Congregational church in Greenville, preceded by a family service at the Cobb-Phelps Funeral chapel at 1:45 p.m. The pastor, Rev. B.H. Cheney, was in charge. Interment was in the Liberty cemetery near Greenville.
In Business at Greenville
Mr. Voss, who remained single throughout his life, was born in Germany October 24, 1858, the sone of Cris and Corline Kuef Voss. While a young man he learned the trade of brick mason, never taking up the occupation to any great extent. Upon coming to this country he pursued various occupations, at one time operating a meat market at Greenville, and during his last days was in partnership with his nephew, Reimer Lundt of Greenville, with whom he made his home for the past 12 years. They conducted a recreation parlor.
Most immediate survivors of Mr. Voss are nieces and nephews. They are Fred Lundt and Peter Lundt of Spencer, Reimer Lundt of Greenville, William Lundt of Sioux Rapids, John Lundt of Gillett Grove, Mrs. Frank Pelley and Mrs. Lilley Miller of LeRoy, Minn., all brothers and sisters; Chris Lorenz and Albert Lorenz of Lincoln, Ia., and their brother Charles of Oak Morrison, Ia., the latter three being among those present at the rites and several nieces and nephews at Doran, Minn. Mrs. John Niemand of Spencer was Mr. Voss' only cousin.
