Marvin Carl Anderson was born on November 30, 1935 at the home of Carl D. Anderson and Nelma Carlson Anderson near Alta, Iowa. He attended Fairview School, which was a mile from his home, and graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in vocational agriculture. His first teaching job was at Greenville-Rossie Community School, in Rossie, Iowa, where he taught vocational agriculture. In 1958, he interrupted his teaching career to join the Army National Guard. After six months of active service, he returned to Greenville-Rossie and taught there until its consolidation with Royal Community School to form Clay Central Community School.

In 1961, he married Colleen Brown in Jackson, Minnesota. In 1967, he earned a Master of Science Degree in Industrial Education from Iowa State University. He continued to teach at Clay Central Community School in the Industrial Arts Department until he purchased the farm north of Sioux Rapids, Iowa in 1968. After the purchase, he taught Industrial Arts at Sioux Rapids Community School and began to farm. In 1975, he quit teaching to become a full-time farmer, specializing in egg production. Throughout the years, he expanded both the poultry production and the agriculture, particularly in hay. He was essentially a conservator of the land, returning fragile acres to grassland and planting thousands of trees as well as constructing waterways and farm ponds to prevent erosion. Marvin was a man who loved travel, family, and land. He met people easily and enjoyed his life to the fullest. As a teacher, a friend, a husband and a father, he taught by example that true humor lies in the ability to laugh at oneself and the vagaries of life. He was a loving father of his two daughters, Angela DeGooyer and Jeannette Raglen and a fond grandfather for his three grandsons, Cole Raglen, Connor Raglen and Danny DeGooyer. He was a member of the Sioux Rapids-Rembrandt School Board and served on the Clay County Agriculture Extension Committee.

Marvin passed away at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida on December 3, 2007 at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Marlys, his brother Keith, his brother Jim and his sister, Annette Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Colleen (Coke), his daughter Angela and her husband Todd DeGooyer and their son Danny from St. Charles, Missouri; and his daughter Jeannette and her husband Lance and their two sons, Cole and Connor from Reno, Nevada. He is also survived by his sisters Enid Peters of Roseville, California and Janet Schive of Marshalltown, Iowa and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

I'M FREE
Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free
I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
And yet, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I savored much--
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me.
God wanted me now, He set me free.
