Henry Reinder Sonius, 1930-2006

Henry Reinder Sonius, the son of Reinder H. and Folena Wiemers Sonius, was born February 15, 1930 in Pomeroy, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Army from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1953.

Henry married Mary Ellen All on May 26, 1957 in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed north of Spencer for many years. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in rural Spencer. He was also an active member of the Farm Bureau, the American Legion, Glen Pedersen Post #1 and Life V.F.W., Post #3159 both of Spencer. Most of all, Henry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren, and his friends.

Henry passed away at the Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Friday, May 5, 2006 at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bertha Mae Sonius.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Spencer; two sons: James and his wife, Cindy Sonius of Spencer, IA and Thomas Sonius of Everly, IA; one daughter, Sue and her husband, Charles Selzer, Jr. of Everly, IA; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mary and her husband, Dale Schmidt and Anna and her husband, Bob Gibson all of Spencer; other relatives and many friends.
