C. D. [Cleon D.] HENDERSHOTT
was born at Ottumwa, Iowa, May 19, 1848. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Hendershott and had seven brothers and one sister, five of the brothers and his sister are still living. On January 15, 1890, he was married to Mrs. Delia M. Duff, in Phillips county, Nebraska, and his wife and two step children remain to mourn his departure. He was a graduate of the Ottumwa high school and the St. Louis Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1873. After being admitted he formed a partnership with his father and Judge Burton, at Ottumwa, where he practiced until he removed to Phillips county, Nebraska. He came to Spencer, April 23, 1891. Since his residence here he has made many warm personal friends. Like other human beings he had his faults but was a generous, kind-hearted man, one of nature's noblemen, and to know him was to like him. He took quite an interest in all kinds of sports and was quite prominent in local politics.[He served in Company K, 47th Infantry Regiment Iowa during the Civil War.]
