Sergeant Frank H. Collins, former resident of Greenville, died suddenly of athletic heart on Thursday, July 8, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois. At the time of his death he was thirty-five years, eleven months, and sixteen days old.
The body was shipped to Spencer on Sunday morning and funeral services were held at the Congregational church in Greenville on Tuesday, July 13, at 2:30. Rev. Benjamin J. Trickey, pastor of the Congregational church in Spencer, officiated. Sergeant Ralph D. Douglas of Fort Sheridan came with the body and stayed until after the funeral. Members of the firing squad of the American Legion attended the funeral services. Interment was made in Liberty cemetery.
Frank Houghton Collins was born on August 26, 1891, on a farm south of Greenville. He lived there until the time when he enlisted in the marines in 1914. He was a marine for six years. In 1921 he enlisted in the army and went to the Hawaiian Islands where he remained for three years. He returned from there and enlisted at Fort Sheridan. At the time of his death he was on recruiting duty in Chicago.
Frank was known as a happy, cheerful man and he will be sadly missed by the members of his family. Sympathy is extended to the members of the bereaved family.
He is survived by two sisters, Edda Collins, and Mrs. Thorval Haalund of Sioux Rapids, and brother, Orville Collins of Marlon, Iowa, other relatives and a host of friends. His parents and sister Elizabeth, preceded him in death.
