------------------------------

Andrew Ostrander was born Aug. 11, 1833, at Lyons, Cook county, Illinois. He had twelve brothers and sisters, all of whom excepting one sister, Mrs. Delilah Pitts, of Longton, Kansas, proceeded him to the spirit world. This sister was unable to attend the funeral on account of having fallen and broken one of her arms. Mr. Ostrander was married in 1853 to Miss Elizabeth Smith, of Lyons, Ill., and settled in Iowa in 1854. To them were born three children, Jennie, Robert and William, all of whom are living. He enlisted in Co. C. 5th New York Artillery Volunteers at Elmira, N.Y., on the 14th day of March, 1862, and was discharged at Baltimore, Md., March 18th, 1864. August 6th, 1865,
he was married to Miss Harriet White of Big Flatts, N.Y. To them were born seven children—Miles, Ora, Porter, Etta, Edna, Clarence and Myrtle, only four of whom were present at the funeral. He was a kind father, and no matter how great his pain, always had a smile for every one. He was a great sufferer, for the last year and a half, being unable to get anything that would relieve him, and was ready and anxious to be called home. He died at the home of his son on East First street May 3d, at 9:15 p. m. The funeral was held at the Christian church at 2 p.m., May 5th, when services were conducted by the Advent minister, Annett Post, G.A.R. attending. He had been a devoted Christian for twenty years, adhering to the Seventh Day Adventist faith.

The light of smiles shall fill again
The lids that overflow with tears,
And weary hours of woe and pain
Are promises of happier years.
There is a day of sunny rest
For every dark and troubled night,
And grief may hide an evening gust,
But joy shall come with early light.
And thou, who o'r thy father's bier
Sheddest the bitter drops like rain,
Hope that a brighter, happier sphere,
Will give him to thy anus again.
For God has marked each sorrowing day
And numbered every secret tear,
And Heaven's long age of bliss, shall pay
For all his children suffer here.
