Niels Lund was born in Aalborg, Denmark, October 12th, 1865. He was baptised and confirmed in the Lutheran church of which he remained a member until he received the summons to depart from the present life.

In 1883 he emigrated to America and settled in Laurens, Iowa. On March 13th, 1896, he was united in marriage to Miss Carrie Mathilda Hagedorn at Willow Creek, Clay county, Iowa. To this union ten children were born. After his marriage, he lived in the neighborhood of Peterson and Royal for several years. In 1910, he moved with his family to White, S. D., where he farmed until he moved to Brandt, S. D., in 1924. He suffered a paralytic stroke in 1927. From this he never fully recovered. Finally complications set in and he passed away at his home in Brandt, S. D., on Tuesday, October 23rd at the age of 63 years, one week and four days. He was preceded in death by a son, Edgar Arley, who passed away at the age of four years. His wife died February 21, 1923 and was buried in the Willow Creek cemetery. He is survived by seven sons; Clarence of Myrtle; S. D., Harry of Minneapolis, Minn., Elmer, Verner, Reno and Arley of Brandt, S.D., and Ralph of Tientsin, China, and two daughters, Elna and Gladys of Brandt, S.D., besides a host of friends.

A devoted father, a good neighbor, a loyal friend and an upright and respected citizen has passed away. May God bless his memory among us.

The services were conducted Friday in the Bethlehem Lutheran church at Royal, Iowa, Rev. N. C. Carlsen officiating. Interment was in the Willow Creek cemetery.
