Everly Mourns Death of Well Known Resident

In the death of Mrs. Philip Mayou, which occurred at Everly Monday, April 16, at 6:30 a.m., this community mourns the passing of one of its best known citizens, a pioneer of Clay county for the past fifty-three years. As a practical nurse, she was present in the time of illness in many homes to assist in alleviating suffering.

Victoria LeClair was born to Mr. and Mrs. Peter LeClair in Iroquois county, Illinois, May 10, 1871. At the age of 10 she came with her parents to Clay township, Clay county. On June 22, 1889, she was united in marriage to Philip J. Mayou, and two years later they moved to Everly, where they continued to live until her death. To this union ten children were born, four of whom preceded their mother in death. She is survived by her husband, three sons and three daughters. The daughters are: Mrs. J.W. Strang, of Spencer, Mrs. Dan Van Houten and Mrs. Louis Dehrkoop, of Everly. The sons are George Mayou and Ed Mayou, of Lake Park, and Elmber Mayou, of Everly. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Nels Reno, of Colfax, N.D., four brothers, George and Victor LeClair, of Roshell, N.D., Henry LeClair, of Currie, Minn., and Will LeClair, Everly, nineteen grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, at the Catholic church in Royal, Father Schultes conducting the services and interment was made in Lone Tree cemetery at Everly.
