Philip J. Mayou, 70, of Everly, resident of Clay county for 53 years, died Monday, December 16, 1935, at his home following an illness of the past two years. His home had been in Everly for the past 41 years where for 29 years he worked as a carpenter and mechanic.
Born June 24, 1865, at Beaverville, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Calix Mayou, Mr. Mayou came to Clay county as a youth. In 1887 he was married to Victoria LeClair of Peterson. They were the parents of ten children; four of whom have preceded him in death.
On April 16, 1934, Mr. Mayou was called to mourn the death of his beloved wife, who had been his devoted companion for 46 years.
Children
Surviving him are the following children: George Mayou of Lake Park, Edward Mayou of Estherville, Elmer J. Mayou of Everly; Mrs. J.W. Strang, 1150 West Fourth street, Spencer, Mrs. Louis Dehrkoop of Everly, and Mrs. Dan Van Houten of Rosholt, S.D.
Also bereft are a brother, L.P. Mayou of Reedley, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Henry LeClair and Mrs. Oscar Metty, both of Currie, Minn., and Mrs. Antone Goyette of Spencer; 20 grandchildren, and a large number of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Rites at Royal
Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Royal Thursday morning at 10 o'clock, with Father Frank Schultes officiating. Interment was in Lone Tree cemetery.
This community will keenly feel this departure of this pioneer citizen and genial neighbor, who made this vicinity his home for so long.
