Cornelius E. Allen, 1851-1923

Cornelius E. Allen, aged nearly seventy-two years of age, and a resident of Clay county for the past twenty-three years died Saturday, April 28, 1923, at his home in Fostoria. Mr. Allen had not been in good health for several years, but his last illness was of short duration and he had been confined to his bed for only a few days.

Cornelius Emmet Allen was born at Ausablo, Clinton county, New York, August 30, 1851, and was the son of David and Sarah Allen. He came to Elgin, Illinois, with his parents, when a child of four years, where they lived until 1873 when they moved to Sac county, Iowa. December 24, 1876, Mr. Allen was married to Miss Jane E. Bartlett. They lived on a farm near Odebolt until the spring of 1900, when they came to Clay county, locating on a farm just east of Fostoria. After spending thirteen years of their life on the farm they decided to give up the strenuous duties of a farm and moved to Fostoria, where they have since made their home.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen became the parents of nine children. They are David E., Snohomish, Washington; Edson M., George G., who died in 1907, Jesse J., Olive M., Carl G., Ella D., Cornelia E., and Orpha L., all of whom are married and living in or near Fostoria except Carl, who lives at Correctlonville.

Mr. Allen is also survived by three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at two o'clock in the M.E. church in Fostoria and were conducted by the Rev. Hammerle. Interment was made In Riverside cemetery.
