Mrs. W.S. Carpenter

Mrs. Ceraphine Carpenter, a resident of Clay county for forty-five years passed away at her home on east First street, yesterday morning at 3 o'clock at the age of 77 years and 29 days. Two weeks ago Mrs. Carpenter had a stroke which resulted in her death.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist church. Rev. W. O. Roten, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be made in Dickens cemetery.

Ceraphine Wetherbee was born May 13, 1851 in Ripley county, Indiana. She remained there for several years and in Buchanan county, Iowa, May 11, 1871, she was united in marriage to W. S. Carpenter. To this union eight children were born, four of which preceded Mrs. Carpenter in death. these living are Mrs. Myrta O'Clair, of Tolley, N.D., Mrs. Myra Rake of Oelwein, Iowa, Mrs. Leva Mason of Grand Fords, B. C., Canada, and F. J. Carpenter of this city.

Seven years after their marriage, September 1878, Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter moved to Nebraska, where they remained until January 1883. At that time they moved to Clay county and settled on a farm south of Dickens, where they lived until November 1904. Since 1904, they have made their home in Spencer. She has been a member of the Baptist church for the past four years.

Mrs Carpenter is survived by her husband, W. S. Carpenter, four children, other relatives, and a large circle of friends. All of the children except Mrs. O'Clair of Tolley, N. D., will be present at the funeral services.
