John A. Duncan, 1851-1927

John A. Duncan, a resident of Iowa for nearly seventy years, died last Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. F. W. Randall in Spencer, where he had lived for the last two years. He was 71 years, 3 months and 3 days old.

Mr. Duncan was born at Greenfield, Ohio, Jan. 9, 1851. He was educated in the common schools. He and lived In Fremont county in the southwest corner of Iowa since he was seven years old. He was married at Thurman, Iowa, March 5, 1874, to Amanda Acord. She died about two years ago, and Mr. Duncan after that made his home with his daughter here.

Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Duncan, of whom Mrs. Randall and a son T. C. Duncan of Sioux City survive. The other child was a son who died at the age of three. Mr. Duncan also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Bayes of Malvern, Ia., and Mrs. Reeves of Chicago, T. C. Duncan and Mrs. Bayes came to Spencer and went with the body to Sidney, Iowa, where interment was made Tuesday.

Rev. Herbert Clegg conducted a short prayer service Sunday at the Randall home. The funeral services in Sidney was conducted by the the Methodist pastor there.
