Mrs. Margaret Everett

Mrs. Margaret Everett, 83 years, who has resided in Clay county for the past 39 years, died Tuesday morning, July 7, 1931, at 9:15 at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. A. F. Rubis, 356 West Pine street. Death followed an illness of a complication of diseases. She had been ill for the past two years and bedfast a month preceding her death.

Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart church, of which Mrs. Everett had been a lifetime member. Interment will be made in the Riverside cemetery.

Margaret Kane was born June 21, 1848, in Mayo county, Ireland, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kane. When she was about a year old, she came to the United States with her parents and they made their first home at Youngstown, Ohio. They later moved to Fairbanks, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage at Independence, Iowa, to William Everett.

In 1892, Mr. and Mrs. Everett came to Clay county and resided on a farm near Ayrshire. Twenty-five years ago, they retired and moved to Spencer, their first home being at 262 West Ninth street. Fifteen years ago, Mr. Everett passed away and Mrs. Everett has resided for the past sixteen years with her granddaughter, Mrs. A. F. Rubis, who had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Everett previous to her marriage.

Mrs. Everett leaves to mourn her death eight children, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ellen Doyle, preceding her in death a number of years ago. After the death of Mrs. Doyle, a daughter, now Mrs. A. F. Rubis, lived with Mr. and Mrs. Everett. The eight children who survive are James, John and Mrs. Sarah Downes of Interior, South Dakota, Mrs. Agnes Tatman of Conrad, Montana, Mrs. Brigg'e (sic) Kiley of Sioux City, Mrs. John McMahon of Estherville, and Mrs. Kate Brown and W. P. Everett of Spencer. Two brothers, Matt and Jack Kane of Fairbanks, sixteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also mourn the death of Mrs. Everett.

Interment in Riverside cemetery
