In the fall of '69 Mr. and Mrs. Everett came to Clay county and made their home on a farm in Logan township where they remained until 1906 when they retired from farm life and moved to this city.

Dies Following Accident

William Everett Passes Away Sunday After Long Illness and a Fall Sustained Easter Morning

Sunday morning, April 30, 1916, William Everett, for over twenty years a resident of Clay county, passed away at his home on West Ninth street. Death came as a result of old age, complicated by kidney trouble from which he suffered for many years, and a fall sustained on Easter Sunday. Not allowing his affliction to keep him confined to bed, Mr. Everett went down town to greet his friends and attend church services Easter. Upon returning he slipped on the turf in front of his residence, slightly injuring his back. This, together with his advanced age, probably hastened his death.

William Everett was born in Mayo county, Ireland, seventy-eight years ago this past March. He grew to manhood in the land of his birth, but when twenty-seven years of age, finding that opportunity offered little to the average citizen of the Emerald Isle, he embarked for the United States just after the close of our great Civil war. He came directly to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he worked in the mines for a short time. Tiring of this he went to Mineral Ridge, Ohio, in hopes of bettering himself. He remained there for three years, later moving to Fayette county. It was there that he married, on December 17, 1869, Miss Margaret Kane.

Came Here in 1893

In the fall of 1893 they moved to Clay county, settling in Logan township. They farmed in that locality until the fall of 1906, when they moved to Spencer, where they resided on West Ninth street.

Mr. Everett from birth a member of the Catholic church and while he resided in Clay county was a faithful member of Sacred Heart church. Naturally he was of a jovial disposition, ever ready with a funny story or a droll remark. He was very fond of his children and only a short time before his death he visited his son William and his family who reside on East Tenth street. Later he spent a week with his daughter, Mrs. Jack Brown. With them he was perfectly at peace and contented, the absolute calm of old age filling his spirit.
