Lena Kirch Juza, 1832-1922

Mrs. John Juza, aged nearly ninety years and a resident of Spencer and Clay county for the past seventeen years, died at eleven o'clock Thursday evening, June 29, 1922, at her home on Prairie avenue. Mrs. Juza had been in good health until about a year ago and since that time had been failing gradually.

Lena Kirch was born September 6, 1832 in Bohemia. Here she was married to John Juza and they came to America about forty-eight years ago. They first located on a farm in Iowa county, Wisconsin, and later moved to South Dakota, where they resided for a number of years. Coming to Iowa they settled on a farm in Summit township, Clay county, where they lived until seventeen years ago when they moved Spencer. Mr. Juza passed away at the home on Prairie avenue January 1, 1914. Ten children were born to this union, four of which are deceased. Those living to mourn the loss of a loving mother are Mrs. John Rubis of Summit township, Mrs. A.B. Easter of Cambridge, Nebraska, Joseph of Hussum, Washington, Miss Theresa at home, and Wencle and Charles of Meadow township. Besides the children there are thirty-three grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren and a host of friends in and around Spencer.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at nine o'clock at the Sacred Heart Catholic church by the Rev. Father H.J. Schloler. Six grandchildren of the deceased acted as pall bearers. They were George Juza, George, Tony, Lewis, Edward, and Frank Rubis, all residing in and around Spencer. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
