Eldo "Hap" W. Scharnberg, 1912-2007

Funeral services for Mr. Eldo "Hap" W. Scharnberg, 94, of Spencer, formerly of Everly, will be held at 10:30 a.m., today, Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at Hope Lutheran Church of Everly. Rev. Kathy Wicks will officiate the service. Interment will take place at Lone Tree Cemetery of Everly.

Eldo passed away Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Longhouse Residence of Spencer.

Eldo, the son of Amiel and Frances (Ott) Scharnberg, was born Oct. 7, 1912 on a farm northeast of Everly. As a child, his father nicknamed him "Hap" and to this day, that is what he was known as. Hap grew up on the same farm that he later lived on and attended Meadowbrook School near his home.

Hap married Helen Zaiser on Oct. 8, 1933, in Spencer. They farmed near May City for several years before moving in 1945 to a farm near Everly. In 1963, they retired and moved into Everly, where for a few years, they operated a laundromat. They were married for 63 years before Helen's death in 1996. Following her death, Hap moved to Northshire and recently Longhouse Residence in Spencer. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Everly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; a daughter, Marvel Lee Williamson; his brother, Arlo and his sister-in-law, Minnie Scharnberg.

Eldo is survived by one son, Sherman and his wife, Connie of Everly; a son-in-law, Norman Williamson of Spencer; a sister-in-law, Ione Johnson of Hartley; six grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.
