Edna Mae Arndt Yungbluth, 1924-2002

Edna Mae Yungbluth, the daughter of George and Ida Wulkow Arndt, was born February 18, 1924, in Clay County, IA. She received her education in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School in 1942.

Edna worked at various jobs, including a bakery and Northwest Bell before entering the military. She enlisted on March 23, 1944, and was an Aerial Gunnery Instructor in the Navy. While in the Navy, she was baptized on March 16, 1944, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and confirmed at the same church on February 3, 1946, in Pensacola, FL. She was honorably discharged on February 18, 1946.

On September 29, 1947, Edna married Robert Yungbluth in Cheyenne, WY. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer a number of years where she worked as a bookkeeper and a writer for KICD. They moved to New London, MN in 1961, where she ran a resort for 11 years. They returned to Spencer in 1972, where she has since made her home. While living in Spencer, she had worked at Dr. Hooven’s office and the Greer Law Office.
Edna was a member of the First English Lutheran Church and was a Sunday School teacher for several years. She was also a member of the American Legion, the Waves International, and was a past secretary for the Local Iowa Waves Unit. She loved to read mysteries and do crossword puzzles as well as handcrafts.

Edna was a hardworking, honest person of strong faith. Her integrity and honesty will always be cherished by all who knew her. On Saturday morning, August 17, 2002, Mrs. Yungbluth passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 78. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert on April 16, 1984; one sister, Rose and one brother, Julius.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter and her husband: Brenda & Bradley Danielson of Toronto, SD; 4 grandchildren: Kirk, Sarah, Kristin & Bethany; two sisters: Laura Nelson of Enid, OK and Betty Sullivan of Spencer, IA; as well as other relatives and friends.
