Casper A. Scheffler passed away Tuesday, June 1,1926, at 5 p.m. at his farm in Meadow township. Death was due to complications of diseases and old age. Mr. Scheffler had been in failing health for the past six months. He was 83 years, 4 months and 21 days old.
Funeral services will be held from the home northeast of Spencer at 1:30 p.m. and from the English Lutheran church at 2:00 p.m. Rev. O. C. Geeisler, pastor of the English Lutheran church, will officiate. Burial will be made in Riverside cemetery. The pallbearers will be E. H. Ferguson, G. H. Faulkender, C. C. Larson, J. A. Yost, John Mauss and M. E. Jackson.
Casper A. Scheffler was born at a small town about forty miles from Berlin, Germany, January 16, 1843. He was one of a family of eleven children. Here he attended the public schools and grew to young manhood. In 1871 he came to America, settling at Dubuque, Iowa, where he worked on the same county farm for 12 years. In 1881 he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Gissell of Dubuque. To this union three children were born. George A., who lives on the home place northeast of Spencer, Mrs. Marie A. Schmidt, southwest of Spencer, and Paul C., of Fort Dodge, who is here for the services. Mr. and Mrs. Scheffler came to Clay county in 1883, settling on a farm northeast of Spencer, where they have lived up to the time of Mrs. Scheffler' s death 26 years ago last fall, and where Mr. Scheffler has lived with his son George since that time. Mr. Scheffler was a devoted father, a trustful friend, and a kind neighbor. He will always be remembered by the many little acts of kindness he did for others. In his early life he was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Besides his three children, he is survived by eight grandchildren Howard, Gladys, Vernon,, La Verna, Arnold, and Helen Scheffler, children of Mr. and Mrs. George Scheffler,, Elmer Schmidt, and Dorothy Scheffler of Fort Dodge, and one brother and one sister who lives in Germany.
