Maxine Marie Sampson, daughter of George and Ethel (Milton) Evans, was born July 15, 1921 in Spencer, Iowa. She attended school and graduated from Lake Center High School. At the age of fourteen Maxine's father died leaving her mother with a family to raise and a farm to manage. Maxine and her younger brother did the farming farm during some of the worst years of the Depression. This was something that Maxine was always very proud of.

On September 21, 1940 Maxine was united in marriage to Leo Sampson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union three children were born. After their marriage Leo and Maxine farmed in the Lake Center area before moving to their farm near Emmetsburg.

Maxine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and Church Circle in Ruthven. She was also a member of the Federated Women's Club.

Maxine loved caring for her home and working on the farm. She was truly a good steward of the land. Rarely did you drive by her home that she was not outside in her garden, mowing grass, driving tractor or caring for all of the cats that made their home on her farm.

Maxine died Monday, January 16, 2006 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo on October 20, 1992, and two brothers, Bob and Gerald Evans.

She is survived by her children, Karen McLaughlin and her husband, Ronald of Fulton, MO; Susan Feely and her husband, Pat of Burnsville, MN; and Kirby Sampson of Emmetsburg, IA; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.
