GEORGE ROSKENS SERVICES HELD AT SPENCER

Funeral services for George Roskens of Spencer who died Wednesday morning, December 6, at the Spencer Municipal Hospital following a hospitalization of four days, was conducted Saturday afternoon. December 9, one thirty o'clock at Hope Reformed Church of Spencer. Rev. Ervin Voogd officiated at the service.

Mrs. Kenneth Black, Mrs. Harold Anderson and Mrs. Franklin Frey sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "Going Down The Valley" and Larry Roskens, grandson of the deceased, sang, "I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked". They were accompanied by Mrs. Walter Kril.

Pall bearers were past and present elders of the church: Ubbe Beving, Albert Gerritsen, Clarence Birshard, C. C. Geidle, William Armstrong and Gerrit Prange.

Interment was made in First Reformed Cemetery near Everly.

OBITUARY

George Roskens was born in Germany, June 13, 1879 to Mr. and Mrs. Eite Roskens. He came to the United States at the age of three years. He had been a resident of Clay county for seventy one years. His marriage to Sophia Boyenga took place at Geneva, March 16, 1905.

To this union five children were born. They are: Mrs. Elmer (Minnie) Borr of Pella; Mrs. Gerrit (Lillian) Hubers of Modesto, California; William Roskens of Spencer and Roy Roskens of Everly. The twin of Mrs. Borr died at birth.

Besides his widow and children, survivors are two brothers, John Roskens of Clara City and Tom Roskens of Spencer; a sister Mrs. Mary Meyer of Everly: eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dick Roskens and Martin Roskens.

Mr. Roskens had been a Clay County Supervisor fo eleven years, secretary of Clay County Mutual for three years and an elder in the Reform Church of America for forty five years. Before his retirement and moving to Spencer he had been engaged in farming north of Everly. He attained the age of eighty-two years.
