1847 - 1925George Watson Culver, a resident of Dickens for many years, died Thursday, May 21, at his home after quite a long illness. He has been in poor health since last December when he had a stroke. Four weeks ago he had a second stroke from which he never recovered and was confined to his bed just one week before death called him.
Mr. Culver was a highly respected and loyal citizen and well known in Dickens and vicinity. He was a kind man and devoted husband and father and always considerate of others. He became a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge on February 9, 1897, and in this organization he made many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Congregational church in Dickens at two o'clock with Rev. J. N. Carey, the pastor, officiating. The pall bearers were all members of the I.O.O.F. lodge and the lodge had charge of the services.
George Watson Culver was born at Helena, Wisconsin, on December 28, 1847, and was married to Melissa Powers at Arrena, Wisconsin, on December 28, 1874. To this union were born five children. William A. of Sanborn, Mrs. Grace Story of Dickens, Harvey E. of Dickens, Leonard D. of Plankington, South Dakota, Dewey of Dickens and one adopted daughter, Mrs. Dolly Neenah Halverson of Raymond, Minnesota. Several years after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Culver located on a farm near Dickens later moving to town, where they have since lived.
Mr. Culver departed this life peacefully at four o'clock on Thursday morning, being at that time 77 years, 4 months and 23 days old. Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn their loss on brother J.F. Culver, of Yankton, South Dakota, one sister Mrs. Elizabeth Mabbott of Stevensville, Montana, 25 grand children and 5 great grand children.
Interment in Trimello cemetery.
