October 20, 1938
The Osceola Sentinel, Osceola, Iowa.

Funeral services for Warren Hart, one of Clarke county’s best known citizens, were held from the Church of Christ by Rev. F.C. McCallon Sunday afternoon following his death Thursday night after a long illness.

Long active in business and public affairs, Mr. Hart had not been closely associated with the community during the past few years on account of ill health. At one time he was a member of the board of supervisors, later a member of the city council. He was one of the founders of the present ‘community sale’, selling his interest when his health failed.

He was perhaps best known as an importer of pure bred horses, making many trips to Europe in the days when fine horses were much in demand on the farms of Iowa.

Warren Monroe Hart, the son of Samuel and Emeline Miler Hart, was born June 1, 1871 in Liberty township, Clarke county, Iowa, where he spent his boyhood. About 34 years ago he moved to Osceola to make his home, where he lived until his death October 14, 1938, at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 14 days.

When but a young man he engaged in the horse importing business, making sixteen trips to Europe over a period of years.

On September 26, 1906 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Minnie McNichols Schaaf. To this union two children were born, Marie Hart-Vawn of near Osceola and Glenn Lloyd Hart, at home; and one step-daughter, Mrs. Georgia Perrin, deceased, whom he loved as his own daughter.

He was preceded in death by his father March 6, 1879, leaving the mother with the care of seven children which she reared to manhood and womanhood. His mother departed this life March 18, 1929. Hr. Hart’s passing was the first break in the family of children. Those surviving are –
Eugene and Edward of near Osceola, Mrs. Mary Ramsey of Grand River, Iowa, Jacob of near Osceola, Mrs. Jennie Sweeney of Derby, Iowa and Mrs. Della Proudfoot of near Osceola. He also leaves an aunt, Mrs. Armilda Thompson of Osceola, and an uncle Oliver Miler of Creston, Iowa, besides several cousins, nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.

He was a member of the Osceola Masonic lodge and of the Mystic Shrine, also the Order of Eastern Star. He was active in all things for the betterment of his community until his health failed the last few years. His last illness dates from June 26, 1938, during which time he was a patient sufferer. All was done that loving and skilled hands could do but to no avail; leaving his sorrowing wife, children brothers and sisters to mourn their loss.
