Death of Mrs. Wetzel

Nancy M. Avery was born February 27, 1855, in Clayton county, Iowa. She was married to C.H. Wetzel, March 21, 1873. Her death occurred in Osceola, Iowa, March 4, 1899, resulting from cancer.

She united with the M.E. church at age of fourteen years, and lived a member of that church for a number of years, then removed her membership to the M.P. church, of which she remained a member until her death. During her sickness of nine weeks duration she frequently gave evidence of being ready to go and be with her blessed Master.

She leaves her mother, two brothers, husband and four children to mourn her loss, but realize their loss is her eternal gain. Here remains were laid away to await the general resurrection, in the cemetery near Union church, which neighborhood she lived for seventeen years. The esteem in which Sister Wetzel was held in the neighborhood was truly shown in the way the people faced the severe storm that was raging at the time, to attend the funeral, the house being filled to its utmost capacity. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. James Kirkwood, president of the Iowa conference M.P. church, assisted by Rev. Moyer. And thus another has gone to rest from their labor.

We are requested to state that the deceased’s father, Philo Avery, enlisted in the 15th Iowa regiment, November 4, 1861. He died at Keokuk in June 1862. This was the company organized by W.W. Williams, which afterward became a part of the Crocker brigade.
