Mrs. Hans Oehlert

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Methodist church in Woodburn for Mrs. Hans Oehlert, long time resident of that community who died Wednesday at a local hospital after an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. Oehlert had been in failing health since last September, but her condition had not been serious until about a month ago. She was 78 years of age.

The services were conducted by Rev. Harry R. Osborne of Chariton and interment was in the Woodburn cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Boor, Leon Keeney, Gurnea Marquis, Glen Cottrell, John Crist and Wm Lowe. The music was provided by Mrs. Dorothy Evans and Mrs. Clarence Oliver with Mrs. Gretta Woods at the piano.

Mattie E. Oehlert, eldest daughter of William and Elizabeth Penick, was born at Eddyville, Iowa, June 8, 1867 and died at a hospital in Osceola, Iowa, June 13, 1945, at the age of 78 years and 5 days.

She was united in marriage to H. Oehlert, Feb. 4, 1886.

To this union three children were born, Emmett, Russel, and Herschel. Russel preceded her in death.

From early life she was of deep religious faith and maintained that faith throughout her entire life.

There are left to mourn her departure, her loving companion, two sons, seven grandchildren, one great grandchild and on sister, Mrs. Stella Blakely of Exeland, Wis., besides a host of friends and acquaintances who greatly miss her.

"However deep the shadow,
However dark the way,
God's love is always with us to
lead us day by day--
And well we know that He who
shares,
And understands our sorrow,
Will give us comfort for today
And courage for tomorrow."
