Mrs. Gladys M. Schaefer, 70, of Sandstone, passed away at Pine County Memorial Hospital in Sandstone last Thursday, April 6. She had been a patient at the hospital for one week.

Mrs. Schaefer was born at Osceola, Iowa November 13, 1896, the daughter of Joseph and Sadie Dietrick. She was baptized and was a member of the Methodist Church at Osceola. She was married to Louis Schaefer at Estherville, Iowa on September 19, 1919. They moved to the Sandstone community in 1923, after living at Estherville for several years, and have been continuous residents since that time. She was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Pine County Barracks Auxiliaries and took an active part in their work in the community. Her husband, Louis, passed away on February 7, 1962.

Survivors include four sons, Joseph of Hinckley, Roy of Garden Grove, California, Delbert of St. Paul and Everett of Superior, Wisconsin; a brother, Alva Dietrick, of Mediapolis, Iowa, two sisters, Lily Dietrick and Mrs. Minnie Borchard of Sandstone; 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Larson Funeral Home at Sandstone Tuesday, April 11 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Victor Browne officiating. Fred Peterson was the soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Arthur H. Larson. Casket bearers were John G. Hawley, Carl Myrvold, Al VanDerWerf, Ben and Herman Carlson and Kenneth Troolin. Burial took place at Spring Park Cemetery in Sandstone, with Larson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
