Walter Raleigh Sweeney, 85
of Afton, died Tuesday, June 15 at the Creston Community Hospital.

Services will be held at the Stroud Lindsey Funeral Home on Afton, Thursday June 17 at 10:00 a.m. Burial at Bethel Chapel.

Walter R. Sweeney

Walter Sweeney was born August 7, 1896 in Clarke County to Charles and Grace (Messman) Sweeney. He passed away at the Greater Community Hospital in Creston on June 15, 1982 at the age of 85.

He was united in marriage to Belva Marquis in 1917. Three children were born to this union. Belva passes away in 1968 and on June11, 1971, he married Vera Smith in Afton.

He lived most of his life in Clarke and Union Counties and moved to Afton area in 1938. Walter was a farmer and school bus driver.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Clifton; a daughter Louetta and his first wife, Belva.
