Lydia E. Barnard

Lydia Ellen, daughter of Isaac and Elvira Barnard, was born in Rush county, Indiana, November 26, 1854 and departed this life at the home in Osceola, April 3, 1929 at the age of 74 years, 4 months and 7 days. She had been in ill health for about a month preceeding her death. Miss Barnard came with her parents to Clarke county, Iowa in 1867, locating on a farm in Jamison, later moving to Osceola where she has resided with the T. E. Barnard family for the past nineteen years. Her parents passed away many years ago and her brother Thomas E. a little over a year ago. A brother Fernando was killed during the Civil War while in service, a sister Laura died soon after the family came here and another sister, Mrs. Adelaide Ingold passed away in Sioux Falls several years ago.

She is survived by one brother, Theodore Barnard of Des Moines and two sisters, Mrs. Florence Foster of Des Moines and Miss Julia Barnard of Osceola, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. T. E. Barnard of Osceola and Mrs. Theo Barnard of Des Moines, besides a number of nieces and nephews who will miss her sadly. Early in life she accepted the faith of the Christian Scientist, becoming a member of the Church of Christ Scientist of Boston, Mass., remaining true to her religion until the closing hours of her life. Funeral services were held from the T. E. Barnard home on South Main St. Friday April 6 at 2:30 p. m. with Mrs. Mollie Dissmore from the First Church of Christ Scientist of Des Moines, in charge and interment followed in the Jamison cemetery.
