Services Held

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 24 for Lela Irene Barnard, who died at the Osceola Leisure Manor Nursing Home Wednesday, April 21. Webster-Kale Funeral Home was in charge of the 2:00 p.m. service.

Lela Irene Barnard, 79, was born in Clarke County, Iowa, February 27, 1892, the daughter of Thomas E. Barnard and Martha Jane Foster. She received her education in the Clarke County Schools and Drake University where she studied music. She taught music from 1920 until 1955 and was a past county treasurer, assessor and auditor. She resided her entire life in Clarke County. She was a member of the Business and Professional Woman's Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was affiliated with the First Church of Christ Scientist of Des Moines and the Mother Church of Boston, Massachusetts.

Surviving relatives include a brother, Paul and wife, Marie of Ames and brother, Garrett and wife, Edna of Seattle, Washington; one sister-in-law, Mary G. Barnard of Los Angeles, California. Also eight nieces and nephews.

Interment was in Jamison Cemetery, Jamison, Iowa. Pallbearers were Eldon Barnard, Frank Barnard, Hallie Johnson, Dan Foster, Raymond McGee and Ivan Henrichs.
