In Chicago Friday

Mary Wells Barnard, 96;
Last Rites Here Monday

Mary Wells Barnard, 96, died in Chicago last Friday. She was born in Clarke county and lived here until 1915. Services were held Monday from Webster funeral home with Mrs. Neva Cornwell of Des Moines officiating. Burial was in Jamison cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Wells, Willis Wells, Marvin Wells, Paul Barnard, Garrett Barnard, Harold Smith, Milo Smith and Stanley Klein. Mrs. Pauline Foster and Mrs. Mary Banta sang, "O Gentle Presence" and "In Heavenly Love Abiding."

Mary Wells Barnard was born June 20, 1858 in Clarke county, the daughter of John and Catherine Long Wells. She was married to Theodore Barnard. They had eight children, three of whom survive.

She was a member of the Christian Science church for the past 60 years.

Surviving are two daughters, Hazel Barnard and Mrs. Agnes Leahy of Chicago; a son, Rollin S. of Des Moines; sister, Mrs. Flavia J. Wilkins of Detroit, 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, other relatives.

Her husband, three daughters and two sons preceded her in death.
