Paul Barnard

Paul Foster Barnard, 87, 720 Kellogg Avenue, Ames, died Sunday, March 7, at Riverside Manor Nursing Home. Private family services were held.

Mr. Barnard was born March 18, 1894, in Clarke County to Thomas Edwin and Martha Jane (Foster) Barnard. He went to Ames in 1914 from Osceola to attend Iowa State College. He received his bachelor of science degree from ISU in civil engineering in 1920. On July 14, 1928, he married Marie Roberts at Lime Springs. He was a civil and structural engineer and designed bridges for the Iowa Highway Commission. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in France with a corps of engineers.

He was a member of the Iowa Engineering Society, Ames Post #37 of the American Legion, American Legion Chorus, American Barbershop Chorus, Tau Beta Pi, and Knights of St. Patrick, both engineering honoraries, Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and was active in Boy Scouts.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, two sons, Thomas, Polk City and Ben of Tonka Bay, Minnesota, two daughters, Anne Rice, Wayzata, Minnesota; and Martha J. Rohde, Breckenridge, Colorado, and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
