David Overton died last Friday at his home near Leslie, aged sixty-five years, nine months and twenty-four days. The deceased was born in Tennessee, and came to Clarke county in 1850. He has remained here ever since, following the occupation of farming in Green Bay township.

In 1858 he married Mrs. Jane Hazlett. Five children were born of the union. One died in infancy, a second Miss Ida Overton died two years ago, and a third, Ellic, was killed in a train accident in the west two months ago. Della and Hal and the bereaved wife survive.

Mr. Overton served in the war of the rebellion for three years and received an honorable discharge. He was a member of church and also a member of the Odd Fellow and Masonic lodges.

He was an honorable and respected citizen, well-liked by his neighbors and acquaintances. His death is the third among the brothers and sisters of this family in the county in five days. Mr. Hiram Overton and Mrs. John Mitchell being the former deaths.

The funeral services were held at his late home Sunday in the presence of many sympathizing friends. Rev. McCorkle delivered the sermon, after which the remains were interred in the Green Bay cemetery.

David Overton, son of William and Nancy Overton, was born in Tennessee, March 24, 1835, and came with his parents to Clarke county in 1850, where he has been a resident until his death. He was married to Mrs. Jane Hazlett (nee Sherrow) in 1858. To this union were born five children, one dying in infancy; a daughter, about two years ago; Ellic dying in Idaho about two months ago. Della and Hal, with the mother and wife, are still living.

Mr. Overton died Friday, January 18, 1901. He was 65 years of age, had served in the late war three years, and was a kind father and loving husband. The funeral services were held from his late residence, Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, the services being conducted by Rev. McCorkle, the remains being interred in the Green Bay cemetery.
